Bulletin Board: Franklin County, Frontier youth football teams have successful weekend

Behind touchdowns from Orion Ortiz and Gavin Keene, the Franklin County Peewee Bulldogs knocked off Northampton, 14-6, over the weekend. 

Jaxson Slauen-White and Kyan Skutnik-Sheffield had the extra point conversions, Joey O’Hara had a big game running the ball while Ben Trombley had three tackles in the win. 

Franklin County Junior Bulldogs 29, Northampton 0 — Wes Darling returned a fumble for a score and had four tackles for loss, Nate Ortiz had four tackles, Avery Lococo ran for 85 yards and two scores while Benjamin Woodard ran in a score in the Bulldogs’ win Sunday. 

Frontier Senior Redhawks 37, Palmer 26 — Riggins Kopcz ran in three touchdowns while KK Taylor, Chase Greene and Colton Byniewski found the end zone in the Redhawks’ win Sunday. Zach Brown added a two-point try. 

Frontier Junior Redhawks 32, Palmer 0 — Jack Carney had a pair of touchdowns while Carter Greene and Hendrix Severance added scores in the Redhawks’ win Sunday. 

Bysiewski, Carter Flagg-Tucker, Lew Graves and Aidan Pitchko had tackles for loss while Pitchko picked off a pass in the win. 

Frontier Peewee Redhawks 29, Palmer 14 — Johnny Stanisewski, Barrett Kicza, Lane Kicza and Ryan Washburn scored in the Redhawks’ triumph Sunday. 

Ben Griffin, Jack Mason, Logan Elias and Braden Maloney played well on the line while James Griffin and Cody Liimatainen stood out on defense.

Trevor Thomas returned a pick for a touchdown while Tim Thornton added a safety in the win. Jared Hart found Jae Roberge for the Panthers’ touchdown. 

J&J Athletics 20, Blitzing Bears 6 — RJ Byrd, Mitch Carey and Tyson Dowdy hauled in touchdown passes from Mak Rodgers while Rodgers added a safety in J&J’s win Sunday. 

Joe Colon found Kaseef Sheppard for the Bears’ touchdown. 

Field hockey

Greenfield 11, East Longmeadow 3 — Penelope Gioules had three goals and two assists, Dani Zraunig had five goals and one assist while Savannah Thomas scored twice in Greenfield Recreation’s win Saturday. 

Charley Deane had a goal and an assist, Ellie Martin and Eleanor Jones each had an assist while Makenna Ward made 11 saves in the win. 

Basketball

 

Troy Snell scored 19 points and Ben Lewis had 18 points at VT Nameless beat Dunkin Donuts, 70-61, in a men’s league contest in the DRIVE League at Stoneleigh Burnham Sunday. Brian Clark (15) and Jermey Thomas (10) led Dunkin Donuts in scoring. 

After, Tajohn Joyner had 26 points while Spencer Butterfield added 11 points in 413 Elite’s 75-64 win over Rattigan & Son’s. Malachi Roman had 23 points and Walter Perry scored 16 points in the loss. 

The final game of the night saw Parker Hickey score 30 points and Maverick Ward add 14 pionts in Futures Unlimited’s 84-48 win over Bruso Computer Solutions. Martin Cahillane (14) and Evan Bruso (11) led the way in the loss. 

In boys varsity action at Stoneleigh Burnham Sunday, Jackson Cogswell had 11 points in Turners Falls’ 43-38 win over Brattleboro. Levi Tobachacick had 14 points in the loss. 

Jon Breor scored 20 points and Aiden Holliday tossed in 15 points in Greenfield’s 58-46 win over Easthampton. Chase Canon-Smith had 14 points in the loss. 

The final varsity game saw Garrett Willard score 21 points in Hatfield’s 52-50 win over Turners. Cogswell scored 15 points for the Thunder. 

Golf

The 2024 Friendship Cup — a contest pitting Greenfield High School Alumni vs. The World — took place on Saturday at Country Club of Greenfield, with Greenfield Alumni winning, 169.5-154.5. 

Greenfield High School Alumni won 55.5-52.5 in doubles play and 114-102 in singles play. 

For Greenfield Alum, Sam Conant and Bill Conant, Michael Duclos and Tom Herzig, Brian Luippold and Tom Smith and Nancy Robie and Diane Carme won their doubles matches while TC Emerson and Gail Miller and Samuel Clarke and Ike Purington won for The World. 

Bill Conant, Duclos, Brian Luippold, Tom Smith, Nancy Robie, Diane Carme and Mike Archer won singles matches for Greenfield while Emerson, Gail Miller, John Shultis, Terry Boyce won for The World. 

Emerson and Miller tied with Sam Conant and Bill Conant for the most points (11) while Bill Conant (13.5) scored the most individual points.
