Football: Athol knocks off SICS, Greenfield falls to Easthampton

The Athol football team got a confidence boost before its Thanksgiving showdown against Mahar. 

Hosting Springfield International in the Bears’ final non-playoff game of the season on Thursday, Sawyer Lefsyk ran in a trio of touchdowns to lift Athol to a 39-14 victory at O’Brien Field. 

Lefsyk’s touchdowns came from 20 yards, 2 yards and 80 yards out. Aidan Melanson threw a pair of touchdowns to Ethan Goodwin, the first from 35 yards out and the second a 20-yard strike. Marc Gould added a 40-yard fumble return touchdown in the victory for the Bears (6-4). 

Easthampton 48, Greenfield 30 — Tied at the half, fumbles plagued the Green Wave in the second half which allowed the Eagles to pull away with a victory in Easthampton on Thursday. 

Greenfield closed its season with a 4-6 record. 

Angel Politis found the end zone twice while Caleb Murray and Erik Martineau also scored for the Wave.
