Track & field: Six local athletes enter Western Mass. Div. 2 Championships as No. 1 seeds

The postseason is officially here. 

The top track and field athletes from Athol, Franklin Tech, Frontier, Greenfield, Mahar, Mohawk Trail, Pioneer and Turners Falls will head to Buckland on Friday to compete in the Western Massachusetts Division 2 Championships at Mohawk Trail Regional. 

A pack of local athletes enter as the No. 1 seed in their respective event fields, and will be eyeing first place finishes on Friday. 

Mahar’s Mitchell Krasco is the top seed in a pair of events, coming in with the top time in the boys 110-meter hurdles (15.34 seconds) and triple jump (42 feet, 9.5 inches). Frontier’s Nicole Plasse comes in as the top seed in the girls 400 meters (1:01.94), Athol’s Karleigh Chase has the top mark in the girls shot put (30-5.5), Mohawk Trial’s Chay Mojallali is the top seed in the boys high jump (6-4), Mahar's Stellina Moore is the top seed in the girls pole vault (9-0) while Frontier’s Adrien Pazmandy has the top mark in the boys pole vault (11-9). 

Plenty of other local athletes will be in the mix to take home individual championships on Friday. 

After going unbeaten in the Intercounty League, both the Redhawk boys and girls teams are loaded with athletes who enter as top 10 seeds. 

For the Frontier girls, Sylvie DiBartolomeo is the No. 3 seed in the 2 mile (12:29.94) while Leah Gump is seeded No. 4 (12:37.14) and Liv Christensen is seeded No. 8 (13:16.74) in the event. Madelyn Antes comes in at No. 7 in the 400 (1:12.99), Rylan Waskiewicz is seeded third in the 200 (27.24) and eighth in the 100 (13.24), Gump is the No. 6 seed in the mile (5:46.34). Hannah Davis enters as the No. 5 seed in the 100 hurdles (16.94) and No. 7 in the triple jump (31-7.25).

Addison Morrey is seeded No. 5 in the 800 (2:33.24) while Mara Allium is seeded No. 10 (2:35.84), Plasse is seeded No. 9 in the long jump (15-0.5). Lilly Novak is the No. 5 seed in the shot put (28-8.25), No. 3 in the discus (94-7), Micky McCarthy is No. 10 in the shot put (27-6) and the No. 10 seed in the javelin (89-3), Maia Christensen is the No. 9 seed in the high jump (4-10) while Elsa Brown (No. 2, 7-6), Phoebe Radner (No. 4, 7-0), Olive Klaus (No. 5, 7-0), Ohia Dellert (No. 7, 6-6) and Mara Allium (No. 10, 6-6) are top 10 seeds in the pole vault.

In the relays, the Redhawk girls are seeded No. 2 in the 4x800 (10:36.56), No. 5 in the 4x100 (53.74) and No. 2 in the 4x400 (4:25.24). 

“We had a wonderful season,” Frontier girls coach Bob Smith said. “We were league champs again. We would like a top five finish Friday night. Mount Greylock looks poised to walk away with it based on the seeding but we have a lot of girls who have done a great job this season.” 

For the Frontier boys, Evan Hedlund is seeded No. 3 in the 2 mile (9:58.04) and No. 2 in the 800 (2:02.44), Aiden Dredge is seeded No. 8 in the 200 (23.84) and No. 4 in the javelin (152-6), Luke Howard enters as the No. 8 seed in the mile (4:45.24) and No. 5 in the high jump (6-0), Jack Storm is seeded No. 8 in the 100 (11.34) and Aidan Valderrama is seeded No. 6 in the 800 (2:07.04) and No. 9 in the high jump (5-10).

Amory Maxey comes in at No. 8 in the 800 (2:08.54), Alex Schreiber is seeded No. 6 in the discus (118-10) while John Reloj comes in at No. 7 (117-5) and Julian Adams is seeded No. 9 (113-10) while Augustus Radner is seeded No. 10 in the pole vault (8-0). 

In relays, the Redhawk boys are seeded No. 2 in the 4x800 (8:52.05), No. 4 in the 4x100 (45.45) and No. 2 in the 4x400 (3:40.94). 

Host Mohawk Trail has plenty of athletes who should be in contention outside of Mojallali. 

Natalie Lanoue enters as the No. 6 seed in the girls 2 mile (13:10.04), Virginia Krezmien is the No. 2 seed in the girls mile (5:27.49), Vincent Gauthier is seeded No. 6 in the boys mile (4:43.53), Mojallali enters as the No. 5 seed in the boys 110 hurdles (16.44) and Zephyr Jetzon is seeded No. 8 in the girls long jump (15-2.5).

Will VanVleet enters at No. 9 in the boys shot put (39-1.5), Morgan Raffa is seeded No. 6 in the girls discus (92-10) and No. 9 seed in the javelin (95-10), Sofiya Slocik-Gritzner is the No. 8 seed in the girls discus (88-1), Heidi Helenek comes in at No. 8 in the girls pole vault (6-6) and Will Alling is seeded No. 9 in the boys pole vault (8-0). 

In the relays, the Mohawk Trail girls are seeded No. 8 in the 4x800 (11:18.02), No. 15 in the 4x100 (56.24) and No. 7 in the 4x400 (4:40.13) while the Warrior boys are seeded No. 8 in the 4x800 (9:20.24) and No. 9 in the 4x400 (3:49.94). 

Some athletes to watch from Athol include Nicholas Leblanc, who is the No. 2 seed in the boys discus (145-5), No. 3 seed in the shot put (41-3.75) and No. 9 seed in the javelin (122-8). Riley Reed is the No. 7 seed in the boys javelin (126-11). 

Franklin Tech’s Preston Duval is the No. 15 seed in the boys 100 (11.55) while Cam Candelaria is seeded No. 20 (11.74) while Josiah Little is the No. 12 seed in the boys long jump (20-0). Atlithonautiu Gonzalez Jayne is seeded No. 14 in the boys discus (106-0) while Izaya Romer is the No. 17 seed (103-9). The Eagles are the No. 8 seed in the 4x100 relay (46.76). 

Greenfield’s Mason Youmell is the No. 9 seed in the boys 400 hurdles (1:01.94) and the No. 4 seed in the 110 hurdles (16.34), Jackson Caron is seeded No. 2 in the boys mile (4:36.24), Jerry Ven is the No. 7 seed in the boys shot put (39-5.25), Jon Breor is the No. 5 seed in the boys discus (121-0) and the No. 10 seed in the javelin (122-3), Krish Patel is seeded No. 8 in the boys high jump (5-10) and Ava Fortin is seeded No. 9 in the girls pole vault (6-6). 

In the relays, the Green Wave boys earned the No. 10 seed in the 4x100 (47.24) and No. 7 seed in the 4x400 (3:44.84).  

For Mahar, Krasco is also the No. 4 seed in the 400 (1:00.22), Mathieu Soucy is seeded No. 3 in the boys 200 (23.14) and No. 4 seed in the 100 (11.24), David Phelps comes in at No. 7 in the boys 110 hurdles (16.74) and Nevaeh Scribner is seeded No. 5 in the girls 400 (1:03.34) and No. 4 in the triple jump (32-9.5). 

Dom Whitman is seeded No. 5 in the boys long jump (20-10.25) and No. 7 in the triple jump (39-10) and in the boys pole vault, Coltin Fausett is seeded No. 3 (9-6), Turin Gurganus enters at No. 5 (9-0) and Michael LaPlante is seeded No. 7 (8-6). 

In relays, the Senator boys are the No. 7 seed in the 4x100 (46.72) and No. 10 seed in the 4x400 (3:52.24). 

Pioneer’s Emmanuelle Flagollet is the No. 8 seed in the girls 400 (1:14.24) and No. 8 seed in the 100 hurdles (17.94), Louise Flagollet is seeded No. 2 in the girls 200 (26.54), No. 3 in the high jump (5-4) and No. 4 seed in the 400 (1:03.04), Sahana Heilman enters as the No. 6 seed in the 100 hurdles (17.34) and No. 5 seed in the triple jump (32-3), Natalie Rios is seeded No. 6 in the girls long jump (15-6) and No. 3 in the javelin (108-1) and in the boys shot put, Noah Gamache is seeded No. 11 (38-8) and Jerad Goulston is seeded No. 13 (37-5.5). 

In relays, the Panther girls are seeded No. 5 in the 4x400 (4:32.34). 

Turners Falls’ Jakhia Williams is the No. 5 seed in the girls 100 (13.04) while Jaade Duncan is the No. 9 seed (13.24). The Thunder girls are the No. 8 seed in the 4x100 (55.14).
